Minor injuries and illnesses

On 1 October 2012, a new GP-led minor injuries and illness unit (MIIU) opened on the Wycombe hospital site. The MIIU is staffed by a team of GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Nurse Practitioners.

The MIIU can deal with adults and children with cuts and bruises, sprains and strains, bites and stings, scalds and minor burns (but not involving the head or neck), infected wounds, suspected fractures, objects lodged in ear/eyes/mouth/nose.

Seriously injured or ill children SHOULD NOT be taken to the MIIU but should be taken to to the nearest Accident and Emergency Department (A&E). Children with any head injury should be taken to A&E.
