Changes to Ordering of Repeat Prescriptions

As of 1st of August 2018, Buckinghamshire CCG are changing the way some patients order their repeat prescriptions by stopping community pharmacies from directly re-ordering repeat prescriptions.  The reason for this change is so that the patient is in more control of their medication and will only be supplied with the items that they need, in an effort to reduce medication wastage.  The CCG feel that this could save up to £660,000 a year across Buckinghamshire, which could be invested into other health services.

If you:

  • Receive your medication in a Dossett tray
  • Have dementia
  • Have a learning disability
  • Are house bound and cannot order medication online or do not have a carer or representative that can do this on your behalf

Then the community pharmacist will still be able to re-order your medication.

You can find further information in the CCG’s patient letter.

We recognise that there will probably be some issues to begin with as the CCG has given us fairly short notice of this change.  We will endeavour to ensure that nobody goes without there repeat prescriptions if normally the pharmacy is requesting them.

You can continue to request a repeat prescription in a number of ways:

By fax

You can ask for a repeat prescription by faxing us on 01494 680214.

In person

You can also call in and drop off a letter/repeat ordering side of the prescription/fill in a request slip at reception.  Your prescription will be available for you to pick up in two working days from the surgery or three working days from a nominated pharmacy (if you indicate one).

Please note we are unable to take requests for repeat prescriptions over the telephone.

PLEASE ALLOW 48 HOURS TO COLLECT YOUR PRESCRIPTION FROM THE SURGERY AND ALLOW AT LEAST 72 HOURS IF YOU ARE COLLECTING FROM A CHEMIST (YOU MAY NEED TO ALLOW UP TO 48 HOURS FOR THE CHEMIST TO DISPENSE YOUR MEDICATION). PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT WORK WEEKENDS AND BANK HOLIDAYS

Online using Patient Access

From 1st December 2013, Millbarn patients have been able to order repeat prescriptions online.

We strongly recommend that all patients sign up for Patient Access online services.  As well as ordering repeat prescriptions, you can also review your test results, medical records and book appointments via this service.

If you are a patient at Millbarn Medical Centre and you wish to start using this service, you can create an account using this link www.patient.co.uk/access.

Once you have created your account, you can book one appointment at the practice. On the day of your appointment, please bring in proof of identification (passport or drivers licence & recent utility bill) and check in with the receptionist at the desk so that we can complete your account sign up registration. You will then have full access to Patient Access and be able to make all future appointments and repeat prescription requests on line, as well as being able to view your test results and medical records.

Alternatively come in to reception with your proof of identification and complete the application process at the reception desk. You will not need an appointment to do this.

IF ANYONE WISHES TO DISCUSS THIS CHANGE TO ORDERING THEIR REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS THEY SHOULD CONTACT BUCKINGHAMSHIRE CCG PATIENT ADVICE AND LIAISON SERVICE ON 0800 328 5640 OR e-mail: [email protected]
